Thank you so much for your support during 2024 – and the very best wishes to you for 2025!
Our little shop has weathered some storms this last year – chiefly the effects of the roadworks on passing trade – but our community support has got us through and we are really grateful.
We’re excited to see the new year come in, with the RSPB Birdwatch the weekend after next (details below) and lots of other jobs around the home and garden to keep us all busy.

Potted bulbs for spring planting
We have 25 varieties of beautiful bulbs ready for planting:
- crocuses in all sorts of cheery colours
- adorable snowdrops (single and double petal varieties for both plain and fancy tastes!)
- iris reticulata in blues and purples
- elegant fritillarias with their chequered patterns
- flowering hellebores in various shades for shaded areas
Whatever corners you want to brighten up we have plants that will suit – get some Spring colour now!
The best daffodils
One of the first signs of spring – our Cornish ‘Tamara’ daffodils last for ages and come from our trusted supplier Fentongollan farm in Cornwall.
We get the same ones every year from this trusted supplier. We’ve had great feedback from customers and are sure you’ll enjoy them!
Spring Cleaning
Time to clean up – pots, saucers, tools, greenhouses, sheds and any other nooks and crannies that need some attention. These cold months, where the garden is dormant, are perfect for having a sort out…
We have brushes, brooms, Jeyes fluid, cloths, washing up gloves and much more to help you get the job done.
And don’t forget to bring your bottles in to top up on eco-refills!
RSPB Birdwatch
Spring is nearly here – and with it the annual RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch on 24-26 January!
Tempt the very best birds into your garden with our feeders and seed options, and then sit back with a hot drink and write up a list of all you see.
The RSPB (Royal Society for the Protection of Birds) has tips, suggestions and all you need to log your bird list with them so you can take part in this long-running example of citizen science! Beginners welcome.
Jobs to get you inspired
And to keep you going in the colder months here are some ideas for getting ahead:
- plant some seeds indoors (veg, flowers, we’ve got the lot)
- put some soil improver on your beds ahead of planting out
- make a list of all the seeds and plants you want to sow and plant this year – and come to visit us!
Plant care
Your plants may be dormant but you don’t need to be… this is the ideal time for pruning apple and pear trees (we have secateurs!) and many shrubs. Ask us for pruning advice if you aren’t sure!
Some plants need wrapping up against the cold. Olive trees and many others are used to warmer temperatures and will be grateful if you keep them wrapped in horticultural fleece.
We also sell gloves – you need to be warm too!
